Columbia, S.C. (April 29, 2010) – South Carolina’s only financial conference geared to specifically meet the needs of CPAs and the financial staff who serve in and work with nonprofit organizations will be held at the Columbia Conference Center on April 29, 2010.

The conference will bring together Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), board members, and nonprofit staff throughout the state and provide valuable training and networking opportunities for participants. Three different tracks will address topics including fraud, mergers/acquisitions, nonprofit organizations, accounting, and auditing.
Charles C. Weathers Sr., president and CEO of The Weathers Group, will participate in a fraud prevention panel, bringing more than 20 years of nonprofit governance experience to the discussion. “Nonprofit organizations face many of the same business and accounting challenges that private sector businesses do,” said Weathers. “Partnering with an experienced CPA to conduct financial audits can be one of the most beneficial investments a nonprofit organization can make in its long-term sustainability. It’s also a critical component for identifying, preventing, and detecting fraud and ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act guidelines.”
Other distinguished conference participants include: Mark Hammond, SC Secretary of State; Valerie Rumbough, CPA, CFP Baptist Foundation of SC; Stephanie O’Cain, CPA; Mark Hobbs, CPA; Rebecca Lee, CPA; Bunnie Lempesis-Ward, United Way of the Midlands; Jaclyn Cherry, USC Nonprofit Legal Clinic; Mark Swanson, CPA, CVA; Jackie Breland, CPA; Frank Cureton, JD; Meaghan Van Liew, MBA; and Dick Butcher, MBA, CMA.
